Not much is known about the sequel to Godzilla Vs Kong but we do have news on when the film will get in front of the cameras for its shoot. The currently untitled sequel is set to begin shooting in Queensland, Australia, later this year.

The news comes via Deadline courtesy of the government agency Screen Queensland. State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk stated that filming will take place in locations across the Gold Coast and the southeast. Screen Queensland also reports that the movie will give the area a big economic boost of $79.2 million ($58.6 million) and it will create 505 jobs for local cast and crew with opportunities for 750 extras. Palaszczuk had this to say about the film shooting in Queensland:

“The production is expected to inject more than double the $36.5 million that Godzilla Vs Kong brought to the state and is a welcome boost to our economy as we recover from the impacts of the global pandemic and southeast Queensland flooding events. These types of productions benefit our screen industry, deliver local jobs and provide a welcome boost to our small businesses and communities in and around our production sites.”

Godzilla Vs Kong was previously shot in the Queensland area and despite opening during an uncertain time at the pandemic box office, the film still managed to gross $468.2 million worldwide. The film also was tested with the day-and-date theatrical and HBO Max launch and still managed to be a global hit. Director Adam Wingard previously told Deadline that he would “absolutely love to continue” as the film’s director. He then added, “The clear starting point we teed up (in GVK), exploring Hollow Earth, I think there is a lot more to do there. This is a pre-history of Planet Earth, where all the titans come from. We tee up some mystery in this film, things I want to see resolved and explored and pushed to the next level.”

What are YOUR thoughts on the Godzilla Vs Kong sequel shooting in Australia? Or the Monsterverse? And have you seen the original King Kong vs Godzilla (1962)?
