Restart the Earth trailer: killer plants destroy cities in Chinese disaster movie

Released in its native China back in September, the epic disaster movie Restart the Earth is set to reach North America sometime soon, as ITN Distribution has picked up the rights… they just haven’t announced a specific release date yet. They have released a trailer for Restart the Earth, and you can check that out in the embed above.

Directed by Zhenzhao Lin, Restart the Earth has the following synopsis:

To fight desertification caused by global warming, human beings developed special chemicals to promote the reproduction of plant cells, but accidentally liberated the plant stress system and awakened the plant intelligence. Over-proliferating plants quickly engulfed cities and attacked humans. A global green tide that can cause the disappearance of human civilization is about to strike.

A global joint action team was dispatched to implement drugs to suppress plant activities. The Chinese team and the survivors met in danger, traversed the ruins of the city and worked together to complete the difficult task…

The film stars Mickey He (Detective Dee: The Mystery of the Phantom Flame), Mi Luo (The Ex-File 3: The Return of the Exes), and Michelle Ye (Dream Home).

Zhenzhao Lin previously directed The Unity of Heroes, The Enchanting Phantom, Monkey King: The Volcano, the Snakes trilogy, which recently culminated in Snakes 3: Dinosaur vs. Python, and Junkrat Train, also known as Rat Disaster or Rats on a Train. I haven’t seen any of those, but it really sounds like I need to watch this filmmaker’s movies. I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on things like Dinosaur vs. Python and Rats on a Train. I wonder how they measure up to Snakes on a Plane.
