Screenwriter Guy Busick is suddenly very busy in the horror franchise world. After writing for Stephen King characters on the series Castle Rock, he landed the job of co-writing the new Scream movie with James Vanderbilt. Scream was such a success that a sequel has been put on the fast track, with Busick and Vanderbilt writing the script again, getting it ready for a summer production start. Meanwhile, Busick is also writing Final Destination 6 with Bed Rest director Lori Evans Taylor, working from a story and treatment that was written by Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. There are two more franchises he has his sights set on: speaking with Filfan, Busick mentioned that he would like to write A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th movies as well.
Filfan asked (translated from Arabic),
After you revived the Scream series, is there an old horror movie series that you would like to bring back in the future?
Busick replied,
In the future, I would like to write new versions of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, and I would like to write original films. I’m also very happy to be working on Final Destination Part VI.
Busick’s other writing credits include Ready or Not (which started his working relationship with Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) and episodes of Stan Against Evil. He and R. Christopher Murphy have also crafted the story for a high school horror movie called Reunion, which Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are planning to make once they have some time off from making Scream sequels.
After watching Ready or Not and the new Scream, I would be glad to see Busick contribute to the A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises as well. Especially if his additions to those series would be as respectful to what came before as Scream was.
Of course, Friday the 13th director/producer Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller have to settle their differences before we’ll ever see another F13. The Elm Street rights are now in the hands of Wes Craven’s estate, and it has been said that they’re taking pitches for new Elm Street projects.
