Obi-Wan Kenobi: John Williams wrote the theme for the Star Wars series

Obi-Wan Kenobi series, John Williams, theme

It’s not quite Star Wars without John Williams. His music has come to define the franchise, but after saying that he was likely done scoring Star Wars movies after The Rise of Skywalker, it’s great to know that we haven’t heard the last piece of new Star Wars music from the great composer. Variety has reported that John Williams has written the theme for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which is very exciting news.

Variety said that John Williams recorded the Obi-Wan Kenobi theme last week under tight security with a Los Angeles orchestra. It’s not known if Williams will reprise any of the music associated with Obi-Wan Kenobi throughout the course of the franchise or if it will be something entirely new, but I can’t wait to hear it.

After scoring the original Star Wars movie, John Williams returned for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker. He also wrote the theme for Solo: A Star Wars Story as well as for the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park. It’s not known if he will be composing anything further for the six-episode Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but I doubt it. Despite turning 90 just last week, Williams has plenty of work on his slate. He’s set to compose the scores for Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans as well as the fifth Indiana Jones movie.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. It will debut on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
