1883: Season two ordered plus another Yellowstone prequel

If you haven’t been watching the Yellowstone prequel, 1883, you’ve been missing the best western series since Deadwood. And now, it looks like 1883 season two will be happening over at Paramount Plus even if, curiously, THR is reporting that the studio isn’t calling it a renewal or season two, but whatever the case, more episodes are coming, so I guess it means more or less the same thing. It could be that the show will be treated as a limited series and what we’ll really be seeing is sequel series rather than a true season two. That’s just as good as a season two – maybe better actually. Not wanting to let the insanely busy showrunner Taylor Sheridan rest for even a second, they’ve also ordered another Yellowstone prequel called 1932 which, according to THR, “will follow a new generation of Duttons during the time of Western expansion, Prohibition and the Great Depression.” That sounds pretty great and adds to Sheridan’s ever-growing slate, including the fifth season of Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown season two, and a new mob series with Sylvester Stallone. All except Yellowstone season five are set to air on Paramount Plus.

1883 is the prequel to Yellowstone and follows John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) ancestors as they participate in a wagon train journey to Oregon. Only two episodes remain this season, with real-life spouses Tim McGraw and Faith Hill playing James and Margaret Dutton and Isabel May as their headstrong daughter Elsa. The great Sam Elliot co-stars as a Pinkerton agent named Shea Brennan, leading the wagon train with his best pal, former Buffalo soldier Thomas (LaMonica Garrett). I’ve been raving about this show since it started, so I’m thrilled we’ll be getting more of one of the best shows on TV.
