When Disney acquired Lucasfilm back in 2012, fans were excited by the prospect of new Star Wars movies. Once the new trilogy began to be released into theaters though the excitement began to turn to frustration. All hope seemed lost. But out of the desert came a new show that immediately hooked fans. The Mandalorian was here and fans could all agree, it is what they had been waiting for. In the second season, the revelation that fan-favorite character Boba Fett had indeed survived the Sarlacc pit had fans jumping for joy and the post-credit scene reveal of the new series The Book Of Boba Fett had people exploding on the internet. Now that the show has just wrapped up, what were some of the fan-friendly Easter eggs from The Book of Boba Fett that you might have missed?
Warning!!!! From here forward there will be spoilers from the entire season of The Book Of Boba Fett!
Patton Oswalt Was Right
In a famous clip of the NBC sitcom Parks & Rec, Patton Oswalt plays a Star Wars fanboy who shows up at a City Council meeting and begins to filibuster by describing how Boba Fett would return from his Sarlacc death trap. Showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni must have been fans of the scene. In Episode 1 we get a flashback to when Boba made his triumphant escape from the belly of the beast. A fan put together a YouTube video that shows the footage from the episode along with the Patton Oswalt commentary from Parks & Rec and it matches up almost exactly. Now that’s a cool Book of Boba Fett Easter egg, right?
The B’omarr Order
When we are shown the land outside of what used to be Jabba The Hut’s palace in Episode 3, we see a droid spider creature walking around. It has a clear orb with some reddish liquid inside. This would be a B’omarr Monk. We actually saw one in Return Of The Jedi wandering around Jabba’s palace. The monks are an order that had their minds implanted into these clear containers to isolate themselves from all physical sensations. They believe it makes their minds more powerful. The spider droid bodies would transport the minds of these monks where ever they wished to travel. They still roam Jabba’s palace as it used to be their monastery before he took it over as his palace. Looks like there are still some roaming around.
Mando’s N-1 Starfighter
Sadly, in the second season of The Mandalorian, we saw his ship the Razor Crest get destroyed. Fans had come to love the ship design and it was tragic to see it go up in a giant explosion. During Episode 5 he returns to Tatooine, flying coach no less, and gets a new ship from his favorite mechanic Peli Motto. She can’t get him a new Razor Crest but does offer him an old N-1 Starfighter from the days of the Galactic Republic. We previously saw these ships debut way back in The Phantom Menace. A young Anakin Skywalker flew one during one of the space battles towards the end of that film. Here we get one put back into service and get souped-up to give Mando a new lightning-quick ride for anywhere he needs to go. The new maneuverability gives him the upper hand in just about any space battle.
Garbage Compactor Brace
If you remember all the way back to A New Hope, when our heroes end up in the trash compactor on the death star, they try to brace the closing walls with some random rod. They grab it out of the piles of garbage they are standing in. All these decades later we finally find out what it is. While Mando and Peli are working on his new ride, Mando holds up the rod we are all familiar with and states that it’s a cryogenic density combustion booster. Sure. I think we’ll all still call it the rod from the trash compactor scene.
Droids Everywhere
In this season of Book of Boba Fett, we see all sorts of familiar droids popping back up for some awesome Easter eggs. R5-D4 shows up again in Peli’s landing station. We previously saw it in The Mandalorian. Before that, we saw it with a bad motivator in A New Hope when Uncle Owen is buying some droids from some Jawa’s. In the casino run by Jennifer Beals in Mos Vespa, we see a few droids running the games. They are the same model as the old R-3X droid that ran the old Star Tours ride at the Disney Parks. It has since been relegated to being a DJ in the new Galaxy’s Edge park in the Disney attractions.
When Boba Fett takes over Jaba’s palace, he uses a droid named 8D8 to introduce guests and give him updates on what is happening in his city. It’s voiced by the always awesome Matt Berry from What We Do In The Shadows. The last time we saw 8D8 was in Return Of The Jedi. He was seen torturing a Gronk Droid at Jabba’s palace. Lastly, video game fans were happy to see BD-1 make an appearance at Peli’s station. It is your companion droid in the game Jedi: Fallen Order. It would help you with maps and help to solve puzzles in the game.
Tosche Station
The Book Of Boba Fett finally lets fans see a location that they have heard a lot about but had never actually seen. When Boba decides to help the Tusken Raiders he comes up with a plan to steal some speeder bikes from a gang of thugs. He follows them to a local hangout which just so happens to be the famed Tosche Station that Luke wanted to go hang out with his friends at in A New Hope. The name is never dropped but the design of the building actually matches the famed location in a deleted scene from the original movie. The showrunners took great care in replicating its look to match.
Grogu And Order 66
In the first couple of seasons of The Mandalorian, we learned that Grogu had lost his memories of his time training to become a Jedi. In Episode 6 we check in on the little guy to see how his training with Luke Skywalker is going. They are doing the usual things we’re used to seeing Jedi doing while training. Lifting rocks with the Force, riding on Luke’s back while he does flips as he’s running through the forest, and having your Jedi master reach into your mind to unlock some memories you tried to forget. We get a quick shot of what happened to Grogu after Palpatine activated Order 66 in Revenge of The Sith. This was a built-in command that would make all the stormtroopers turn on the Jedi. Grogu saw his fellow Jedi fall before the memory cut off again as stormtroopers were advancing on him. In season 3 of The Mandalorian surely we’ll be seeing more of these locked memories.
Live Action Debuts
Some characters we first saw in live-action in The Mandalorian like Ashoka and Cobb Vanth returned for another appearance in The Book Of Boba Fett. We also get some new characters showing up on screen for the first time. The wookie bounty hunter Black Krrsantan made his debut in the Star Wars comics, but here we get the live-action version of the feared wookie. He starts out opposed to Boba Fett but eventually joins him as his hired muscle in his fight against the Pikes. Another famous bounty hunter Cad Bane shows up working for the Pikes. He first appeared on the Clone Wars series. Cad tells Freetown to let the spice trade continue and has a showdown with Cobb Vanth. Later he fights Boba Fett and lets on that they have a lot of history together.
Yoda’s Lightsaber
During Grogu’s training Luke can tell that he is conflicted. Should he stay and train with Luke to become a Jedi? Luke feels he is being pulled in two directions as he wants to return to Mando. He offers Grogu a choice. Mando had dropped off Beskar chain mail armor to protect the little guy. With this Luke says he can choose the chain mail and return to Mando to live the life of a Mandalorian, or he can choose a lightsaber and continue his Jedi training. With this, he pulls out Yoda’s lightsaber and turns it on. The familiar short green blade glows in Grogu’s eyes. We only ever saw Yoda use it in the prequel trilogy, but he must have kept it as a keepsake.
Boba Rides A Rancor
Probably the most exciting thing they set up this season was the idea that you can ride a Rancor. When Danny Trejo delivers the young Rancor to Boba he tells him of tales of the Witches of Dathomir. They were rumored to ride Rancors in the forest. This more than likely refers to the Nightsisters of Dathomir. They showed up now and again during the run of the Clone Wars series. They proved to be very powerful Force users who had descended from an exiled Jedi on Dathomir. With the combination of the Force and magic, they easily stand toe to toe with Jedi Masters and Sith Lords. All this really did is make me really want to see Boba ride a Rancor. We got it and it was glorious.
