Saoirse Ronan is about to take an emotional trip down memory lane for a new feature from director Nora Fingscheidt. Based on the best-selling memoir by Amy Liptrot, The Outrun movie adaptation has placed Ronan in the lead role. Ronan will also executive produce The Outrun adaptation with Protagonist Pictures handling the worldwide sales.
Here’s the official synopsis for Liptrot’s novel:
After a decade of heavy partying and hard-drinking in London, Amy Liptrot returns home to Orkney, a remote island off the north of Scotland. The Outrun maps Amy’s inspiring recovery as she walks along windy coasts, swims in icy Atlantic waters, tracks Orkney’s wildlife, and reconnects with her parents, revisiting and rediscovering the place that shaped her.
Ronan will star in the adaptation as Rona, the story’s main character. In talking about how Liptrot’s voice drew her to the project, Ronan expressed her admiration for the author’s “unusual way of seeing things in a way that perhaps you only can when you’ve been to the darkest place you can go within yourself.”
Nora Fingscheidt, whose directorial efforts include the films System Crasher and The Unforgivable, penned the screenplay alongside Liptrot.
Ronan recently wrapped her part for Tom George’s See How They Run, which also stars Adrien Brody, Sam Rockwell, Ruth Wilson, David Oyelowo, Harris Dickenson, and Shirley Henderson. The film focuses on a desperate Hollywood producer who sets out to turn a popular play into a film. When members of the production are murdered, world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Rockwell) and rookie Constable Stalker (Ronan) find themselves amid a puzzling whodunit. Ronan is also set to star as Henrietta in Garth Davis’ Foe, which is set in the not-too-distant future when servers climate change has ruined farmland. In the film, a farmer and his wife struggle on one of the last remaining farms until a knock on the door changes everything. Paul Mescal and Aaron Pierre also star.
While I am not familiar with Liptrot’s novel, I always consider Ronan a draw for any film project. I’ll be keeping an eye out for a trailer once The Outrun movie is ready to hit the road.
