After being spotted on the set of the Batgirl movie recently, Deadline has confirmed that Ivory Aquino (When They See Us) has joined the cast of the HBO Max project.
Ivory Aquino is playing Alysia Yeoh in the Batgirl movie, a transgender bartender and Barbara Gordon’s best friend. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the directors behind Bad Boys for Life, are directing the Batgirl movie which has been penned by Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson. Leslie Grace is starring in Batgirl and the first official glimpse at her suit was released earlier this month. The movie will also see J.K. Simmons reprising his role of Commissioner Gordon and he’ll apparently have a more significant role to play this time around.
I was completely flabbergasted they came back to me recently and wanted to have me be Commissioner Gordon again and have it be a more significant role… I’m looking forward to it. I think I’m going to get on the horn to [Leslie Grace] and the directors in the next couple of days and do a little preliminary rehearsals on it. They start very soon and I jump on board sometime in January over in Glasgow, which is a wonderful place to be shooting it as it’s Gothic.
In addition to Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, and Ivory Aquino it was announced last October that Brendan Fraser had signed on to play the main villain, who is believed to be Firefly, a sociopathic pyromaniac. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah also teased that Batman will appear in the film, but didn’t specify which version of Batman that would be. It was later revealed that Michael Keaton would be playing the Batman in question. Before Batgirl, we’ll first get to see Michael Keaton step into his old batsuit in The Flash, which is set to hit theaters on November 4, 2022.
