Tom Holland hangs on for dear life in new Uncharted clip

After spending years in development hell and even more delays thanks to the pandemic, Sony’s live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted videogame franchise is nearly upon us. Starring Tom Holland as famed treasure hunter Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor “Sully” Sullivan, a friend, mentor, and father figure to Drake, Uncharted has been a long time coming. Sony Pictures have released a new Uncharted clip that finds Nathan Drake hanging on for dear life.

The scene in the Uncharted clip has been heavily promoted in the trailers for the film and is easily recognizable to fans as it pays tribute to a similar scene from Uncharted 3. While it’s easy to dismiss movies based on video games, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Uncharted sticks the landing, if only so the past decade of development hasn’t been wasted. Throughout that period, we’ve seen a revolving door of directors attached to the project, including David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, Travis Knight, and finally, Ruben Fleischer. What did you think of the Uncharted clip? Will the film prove to be worth the wait or will we be adding it to the large pile of sub-par videogame movies?

The official synopsis for Uncharted:

Street-smart thief Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother…but only if they can learn to work together.

Uncharted will debut in theaters on February 18, 2022.
