It’s been a while since we heard any updates on Suspiria remake (watch it HERE) director Luca Guadagnino’s horror film Bones and All, based on a novel by Camille DeAngelis (pick up a copy at THIS LINK) – in fact, we haven’t heard anything about the movie since the first image of stars Timothée Chalamet (Dune) and Taylor Russell (Escape Room) in character was released six months ago… so it was good to see that cast member Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) gave it a mention in a new interview with GQ.
Described as a “coming-of-age horror story” and a “horror love story”, Bones and All follows
Maren Yearly on a cross-country trip as she searches for the father she’s never met in an attempt to understand why she has the urge to kill and eat the people that love her.
According to Deadline, Russell and Chalamet play
star-crossed young lovers surviving on the margins of society, who meet and join together for a thousand-mile odyssey that takes them through the back roads, hidden passages and trap doors of Ronald Reagan’s America. Despite their best efforts, all roads lead back to their terrifying pasts and to a final stand that will determine whether their love can survive their otherness.
When the GQ interviewer brought the project up to Rylance, they said it “seems pretty dark”. Rylance replied,
Yeah, it’s a really curious genre. It’s a road movie, but it’s also like a Bonnie and Clyde romance. And they happen to be eating people. So it’s got a very thoughtful aspect to it about things that we inherit from our parents. A little bit like Call Me By Your Name, in terms of discovering you are gay, something you didn’t know about yourself. How do you deal with that?”
Guadagnino’s Suspiria collaborator David Kajganich wrote the screenplay. Russell, Chalamet, and Rylance are joined in the cast by André Holland, Michael Stuhlbarg, Francesca Scorsese, Anna Cobb, Chloë Sevigny, Halloween 2018 / Halloween Kills director David Gordon Green, and original Suspiria star Jessica Harper.
