We heard back in March that a remake of the 1984 killer Santa classic Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it HERE) is in the works, and while we wait for more news on that project, Fright Rags has announced another very cool project – Silent Night, Deadly Night: The Game! Copies of the board game can be purchased through a Kickstarter campaign that is swiftly closing in on its $20,000 goal with 27 days left.
Silent Night, Deadly Night executive producers Scott J. Schneid and Dennis Whitehead are teaming up with Anthony Masi and Fright Rags to make this game happen. Images on the Kickstarter page reveal it’s a double-sided board (there’s a naughty side and a nice side, of course).
Here are the mandates that were in place while the game was being designed:
The game had to be inspired by the movie.
It had be FUN to play!
The game could be played with multiple players as well as solo.
Playing the game had to be EASY… NO complicated instructions.
Although the game should be easy to play, it should be CHALLENGING.
NO SCORING! Who likes to keep track of scores during a game?
The game had to have UNPREDICTABLE outcomes and be DIFFERENT every time.
The team developed the game and tested it numerous times with 1 to 4 players, and the game got better and better the more it was tested.
Playing the game involves a deck of cards with thirty cards in it. Examples of the cards can be seen on Kickstarter as well.
The way our 30-card deck is used during game play is SO IMPORTANT, and it ensures the each game’s result is different and unpredictable. We also wanted players to think of their favorite scenes in the movie while playing, so the cards are filled with the SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT imagery that fans love.
Remember all of those 2-hour blocks sitting around the Monopoly board during your childhood? You won’t experience that with our board game! During testing, some games lasted 7 minutes, while others lasted 20 or 30 minutes, and the cards have a huge impact on this! We designed the gaming experience so that you can play a few games back-to-back without taking up too much time.
Game pieces allow players to play the game as some of their favorite characters from Silent Night, Deadly Night, including Sister Margaret, Mr. Simms, Andy, and Denise. A “kill spinner”, dice, roadblock chips, snowballs, and a save badge are also involved in gameplay, as are Billy the killer Santa’s weapons: an axe, a bow and arrow, and a hammer. The object of the game is to stop Billy from getting to the orphanage and killing Mother Superior.
Working as a team, 1-4 players will need strategy, bravery, and a little luck to stop murderous Santa Billy from reaching St. Mary’s Home for Orphaned Children! Roll the dice and make your move while Billy stalks along his path. Collect weapons, roadblocks, and snowballs to help your fight — and when that time comes, flick the spinner to determine your fate!
The board features five “kill zones” with new illustrations by Justin Osbourn, which will be revealed throughout the campaign. A deck of 30 action cards guarantees each game is unique, while a reversible board with a “naughty” drinking game version is available exclusively on Kickstarter.
Directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr. from a screenplay by Michael Hickey (with Paul Caimi receiving story credit), Silent Night, Deadly Night has the following synopsis:
Bearing the emotional scars of a young boy who has seen his mother and father brutally murdered by a savage killer in a Santa Claus costume, 18-year-old Billy explodes into a lethal frenzy – he’s asked to put on a Santa Claus suit himself to entertain the customers of the department store where he works. Reminded of the tragic events that have marked his life, Billy embarks on a killing rampage that is as ghastly – and controversial – as anything ever seen on film.
Robert Brian Wilson, Lilyan Chauvin, Gilmer McCormick, Toni Nero, Britt Leach, Nancy Borgenicht, Linnea Quigley, and Leo Geter star in the film.
Playing a game based on Silent Night, Deadly Night sounds like a blast to me! Will you be getting a copy?
