Kingsman 3, Matthew Vaughn, Kick-Ass reboot

Kingsman fan-fic writers, your ship may be coming in. According to Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman 3 plans to have a “will they or won’t they” angle to Eggsy and Harry’s relationship. This news comes to us courtesy of Collider, who recently spoke with Vaughn about what he’s cooking up for the next chapter of Kingsman, as well as a Kick-Ass movie reboot.

When asked about Eggsy and Harry’s participation in Kingsman 3, Vaughn enthusiastically confirmed that both characters would be involved.

“Eggsy and Harry [will be in it], obviously. But it’s the gang coming back together and it’s one of those moments that…when we wrote the screenplay, it was very much about, okay, I saw how people loved the relationship of Eggsy and Harry. So we just came up with this thing, what could be the ultimate reason for them to either fall in love or to hate each other forever? So that’s what this movie is all about is will they or won’t they, let’s just say.”

Do you recall how the Kingsman branch got wiped out during the finale for Kingsman: The Golden Circle? Well, part of Vaughn’s Kingsman 3 plans revolve around introducing a new chapter of the British spy organization. The sequel will also see Eggsy and Harry attempting to rebuild their part of the group from the ground up. Between rebuilding the Kingsman, working on their differences, and facing new threats, Eggsy and Harry are going to be doing some heavy lifting in the next film.

As for Kick-Ass, Vaughn says a big reboot of the franchise is in the works.

“We’ve got a big reboot of Kick-Ass in two years. Big reboot,” Vaughn told Collider. “It’s so fucking nuts that I can’t talk about it. But we’ve got that ready to go. All the rights revert back in two years and then we’re going to reboot it where people will be like, he is insane.”

Of course, the question on everyone’s mind now is this: What does a Kick-Ass reboot look like? Will it be an adaption of the Kick-Ass 3 comic book? Will it feature Patience Lee, one of the newer characters to the Kick-Ass universe? Based on what Vaughn said next, I think that is unlikely.

“Because I think the clue is in the title. I think Kick-Ass became a new type of genre. Everyone was like, ‘Oh, you can’t make R-rated superheroes. No one will want to see an R-rated superhero. You can’t do this. You can’t do that.’ So, I had this idea, and it was so nuts that I went, ‘Yeah, great. It’ll cause just as much controversy, and everyone will talk about it and as many people that love it will hate it.’ But I’m not saying it hasn’t got the characters in it and won’t have, you know. I’m just saying it’s not what anyone could be imagining what it is. And I’m going to need one very, very brave actor or actress to play the new Kick-Ass because it will scare the shit out of them.”

It sounds like Vaughn has big plans for both Kingsman 3 and Kick-Ass. As a major fan of the Kingsman franchise, I’m excited to see what Eggsy and Harry have been up to. Also, Vaughn, if you’re reading this, please bring Roxy (Sophie Cookson) back into the mix. We all know that she escaped when the bomb went off. Let’s follow up on that and give her a bigger role in the sequel, yeah?

Are you down for more Kingsman movies after the release of The King’s Man on December 22, 2021? How about Kick-Ass? Do you think Vaughn will make good use of the property once the rights revert to their rightful place? Let us know in the comments section below.
