Jeremy Renner is finally getting his due as Clint Barton with his Disney+ series Hawkeye and Marvel producer Trinh Tran is saying that Barton has a future in the MCU beyond what we’re seeing unfold on the streaming miniseries.
With the series introducing Barton’s protege Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), many assumed that this would set up the end of Renner’s run as the character but producer Trinh Tran says, via Cine Pop, there are many stories that are left to be told:
“There are always new stories to be told, especially with Clint Barton. There is so much more to explore. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but it’s amazing to work with Jeremy. He loves his character, He’s the only person who really knows who Clint Barton is. I think there are possibilities. We’ll see.”
Hawkeye and Jeremy Renner’s portrayal of him has always made him my favorite Avenger. I’ve always felt he was too underutilized but Renner made the most of it every time he was on screen. Much like Black Widow, he possesses no superpowers but his natural abilities make him a true asset to the team. Tran believes that his normality is what makes him popular with fans:
“I think that’s one of the biggest reasons the public likes him. He’s one of the only heroes without superpowers, but he always saves the day. He is an ordinary man. The message is that if you put in the effort, you can do anything. He can be alongside the other Avengers, who can fly and have special abilities, and be able to fight and do whatever it takes to save the world. I think this is very inspiring for viewers. You can make effort and you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.”
Hawkeye has received stellar reviews from critics at 93% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes while the audience score stands at a healthy 84%. The series follows Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) as she takes up the bow and arrow and title of the Avenger Hawkeye, as she encounters the original hero Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) in NYC while he’s on holiday with his family. Appearing alongside Renner and Steinfeld in Hawkeye are Vera Farmiga, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James, and Fra Fee.
