Batgirl movie has officially started shooting

It may have taken more than a few decades, but Batgirl is finally set to take center stage in her own live-action film. Warner Bros. announced earlier this year that Leslie Grace would play Batgirl in a movie destined for HBO Max, and it seems that shooting has officially begun.

Batgirl co-director Adil El Arbi took to Instagram to share an image from the set that shows a clapper (with the Batgirl movie logo on it) sitting on Officer Barbara Gordon’s desk. Check that out below.

Now that the Batgirl movie has officially started shooting, I’d imagine that it won’t be that long before we get to see an image of Leslie Grace suited up as well. In addition to Grace, the Batgirl movie will also see J.K. Simmons reprising his role of Commissioner Gordon, and he recently said he’ll have a more significant role to play this time around.

I was completely flabbergasted they came back to me recently and wanted to have me be Commissioner Gordon again and have it be a more significant role… I’m looking forward to it. I think I’m going to get on the horn to [Leslie Grace] and the directors in the next couple of days and do a little preliminary rehearsals on it. They start very soon and I jump on board sometime in January over in Glasgow, which is a wonderful place to be shooting it as it’s Gothic.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the directors behind Bad Boys for Life, are directing the Batgirl movie which has been penned by Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson. In addition to Leslie Grace and J.K. Simmons, it was announced in October that Brendan Fraser had signed on to play the main villain. The directors have also teased that Batman will appear in the film, but specify which version of Batman that would be.
