In our latest episode of the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series, we’re going with a film that may or may not be the third installment of a franchise. 1989’s The Horror Show was released in some countries outside the United States as House III: The Horror Show, even though the only connection to those films would be in name only. Despite a franchise identity crisis, The Horror Show is still a fun time for horror fans and, if you would like to choose to view this entry as the third entry of the House franchise, it does offer an intriguingly darker alternative to its more light predecessors. If you haven’t seen The Horror Show yet you should definitely seek it out as soon as possible, and in the video embedded above we’ll tell you exactly why it’s a must-see.
Directed by James Isaac and written by Leslie Bohem and Allyn Warner, who ultimately wanted to be credited as Alan Smithee, The Horror Show has the following premise:
Detective McCarthy finally catches “Meat Cleaver Max”, a serial killer, who promises revenge during his execution. Although he “dies” during the execution, his electricity-fueled spirit is still very much alive and he is pissed off. Soon his spirit is living in the basement of Detective McCarthy, the cop who arrested him, and the only way to stop him, according to a parapsychologist, is to destroy his spirit once and for all.
Lance Henriksen, Brion James, Thom Bray, Rita Taggart, Dedee Pfeiffer, and Aron Eisenberg star.
