UPDATE: Artwork and logo revealed!
Filmed under the title Skulls, the new movie in the Predator franchise is now officially titled Prey – and Deadline reports that Disney has announced a summer 2022 release for the film during today’s Disney+ Day event. Now we just have to wait for them to reveal the specific release date.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg from a screenplay by Patrick Aison, Prey is set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. The story follows
Naru, a skilled female warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator.
Amber Midthunder (Roswell, New Mexico) stars alongside Dane DiLiegro (American Horror Stories) and Dakota Beavers of the band WesternBoy. DiLiegro is a 6’9″ former basketball player who has experience working in creature suits, so fans are speculating that he is this film’s Predator.
We had previously heard that the film would center on a character named Kee. Apparently Kee was renamed Naru somewhere along the way. Here’s the first synopsis we ever saw, which kept the Predator connection under wraps:
Kee, a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior. Many years ago – in a time before any Europeans had ever encroached on their lands – the Comanche people had a well defined society and gender norms. Kee is very close to her younger brother, Taabe, who is being groomed as a leader. As capable as any young man in the tribe, Kee has always been a teacher and source of inspiration for Taabe. In the Comanche way – she is Patsi – the elder sister that has helped to shape him. Kee is a truth teller and has insight that others do not. A tomboy, she wants to prove herself in the masculine world of the Comanche. When danger threatens them all – Kee sets out to prove that she is as capable as any young warrior.
Prey was produced by John Davis and John Fox.
Writer Peter Briggs, best known for the Alien vs. Predator spec script he wrote in the ’90s (before he wrote an unused draft of Freddy vs. Jason), says he was asked to contribute to a Predator anthology novel that’s going to be released next May, “to come out with the release of the new Predator movie”. So it sounds like we might get Prey slightly before summer officially begins, or in very early summer. The anthology novel, Predator: Eyes of the Demon, has a May 24, 2022 street date and can be purchased at THIS LINK.
