Screen Media, a Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment company, has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Benjamin Louis’s found footage horror film Stoker Hills, starring genre icon Tony Todd (the original Candyman himself). Screen Media is planning to give Stoker Hills a theatrical and VOD release in January.
Directed by Louis (State’s Evidence) from a screenplay by Jonah Kuehner (Good Luck Charlie), Stoker Hills has the following synopsis:
In the secluded town of Stoker Hills, three college students filming a horror movie find themselves trapped in their own worst nightmare. Their only hope for survival is two detectives who find the camera they left behind in the woods.
Todd is joined in the cast by William Lee Scott (Butterfly Effect), Danny Nucci (Titanic), and Steffani Brass (Six Feet Under).
Louis produced the film with Rab Butler, Timothy Christian, and Jonah Kuehner, through Streetwalkers Productions.
Screen Media provided the following statement about Stoker Hills:
We’re always on the hunt for new, innovative genre voices, and we found just that with director Benjamin Louis. His fresh take on the found footage subgenre surprises at every turn.”
Louis added:
After several years of hard work and dedication, our team is thrilled to partner with Screen Media for our domestic release. We are excited to share the film with the US audience.”
I’m not a big fan of the found footage style, but I’m interested to see what Tony Todd was given to do in Stoker Hills. We’ll keep you updated as the movie continues to move toward its January release. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long to see a trailer.
