Danny DeVito joins Disney’s Haunted Mansion movie

Disney’s Haunted Mansion movie just got a whole lot better as THR has reported that Danny DeVito (Jumanji: The Next Level) has joined the cast.

The big-screen adaptation of the classic Disneyland theme park ride kicked off production last week in New Orleans and Atlanta under the direction of Justin Simien (Dear White People) from a script by Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters). In addition to Danny DeVito, Haunted Mansion is also set to star LaKeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah), Tiffany Haddish (Bad Trip), Rosario Dawson (The Mandalorian), and Owen Wilson (Loki).

Plot details are largely being kept under wraps but Haunted Mansion is said to follow a mother and her son who come across a mansion that is more than it seems while being orbited by various characters key to undressing the spooky mystery. Previous reports have claimed that Stanfield would play a widower who once believed in the supernatural but is now a rather lifeless tour guide in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Haddish would play a psychic hired to commune with the dead. It’s said that Danny DeVito will play a “smug professor.” I love it.

Danny DeVito is also set to join forces with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the long-awaited Twins sequel, Triplets. It was recently revealed that the project would kick off production next year. The third twin has long been rumoured to be Eddie Murphy, but director Ivan Reitman said Murphy is too busy at the moment so Tracy Morgan will fill the role. “We started a script with Eddie, and after the success, he had with Amazon Prime on Coming 2 America, he got himself booked up heavily,” Reitman explained. “And we knew we were going to make it at the beginning of next year. I’d been good friends with Tracy Morgan for a long time and always thought he was one of the funniest men in the world. I thought he would make a terrific triplet, and we rewrote the whole script for him. Now, we’ll go out and try and put the money together and get it made.“
