Creature from the Black Lagoon: Ricou Browning in need of get well cards from fans

Ricou Browning is the last surviving actor to have played a classic Universal Monster, as he portrayed the Gill-Man in the underwater scenes in all three entries of the Creature from the Black Lagoon trilogy; Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Revenge of the Creature (1955), and The Creature Walks Among Us (1956). Sadly, Browning lost his wife last year and now the 91-year-old is reportedly in poor health himself – so fans have been asked to help lift his spirits by sending him letters and get well cards in the mail.

Ron Adams of Creepy Classics and Monster Bash sent out the following message on social media:

I just had a call from Ricou Browning’s daughter. He isn’t doing very well right now and any hard copy letters or get well cards would be very appreciated.

Ricou played the Creature under water in all three CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON movies.

Please cheer him up with a card or letter addressed to:

Get something out for our Gill-Man… it would make him happy.

Aside from his work as the Gill-Man, Browning is also known for directing the underwater sequences in the classic James Bond movie Thunderball, as well as the Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again. He is the co-creator of Flipper and directed 37 episodes of the show during its original 1964 – 1967 run. He followed that friendly dolphin story by directing and co-writing the film Salty, about a friendly sea lion. Then he co-wrote the 1980 horror movie Island Claws, about giant crabs that were definitely not friendly.

Additional directing credits include episodes of the show Gentle Ben, about a family and their bear living in the Florida Everglades, and the 1978 action movie Mr. No Legs, about a double amputee criminal who has shotguns built into his wheelchair.
