Johnny & Clyde: Megan Fox heist movie features supernatural slasher

Last Updated on September 29, 2021

A couple weeks ago, we heard that Megan Fox and Tyson Ritter would be starring in Johnny & Clyde, a project that was described as a “Bonnie & Clyde update” crime thriller… but as it turns out, the project is closer to From Dusk Till Dawn than Bonnie & Clyde, as it centers on criminals who run into a horrific threat. While From Dusk Till Dawn had vampires, this one has a supernatural slasher in it. This information was revealed in an interview Bloody-Disgusting ran with writer/director Tom DeNucci and co-writer/stunt coordinator/cast member Nick Principe.

We previously heard that Johnny & Clyde will follow

the two eponymous serial killers who are madly in love and on an endless crime spree. They have their sights set on robbing a prosperous casino run by crime boss Alana (Fox) and her head of security (Ritter).

Here’s how Principe described the story to Bloody-Disgusting:

Basically, it’s about two psychopaths that are utterly in love. They’ve gone on a kind of Natural Born Killers cross-country crime spree, and they’re kind of finding themselves out of money and out of places to go. They end up back at their home town, trying to make a couple of robberies until they get wind of a very, very big score. The lead character Johnny calls on some of his childhood foster care friends, who are very grown up at this point and are equally entertaining psychopaths. They form a heist crew to take down this secretive cash room that’s run by Megan Fox’s character, where they are met with some supernatural surprises…”

Those surprises are unleashed by Fox’s character, described as a “messed up, very dark, twisted version” of a Disney princess. It seems she traps the criminals in the cash room and sets loose a supernatural slasher, shifting the movie into “balls-to-the-wall slasher/horror” mode.

Principe, who is best known for playing the slasher ChromeSkull in the Laid to Rest movies, said he’ll be playing a member of the foster family who’s called Butcher, and will also be playing the masked slasher. Joining him, Fox, and Ritter in the cast are Robert LaSardo, Sean Ringgold, and Armen Garo. The actors playing Johnny and Clyde have not yet been revealed.

I didn’t pay much attention to Johnny & Clyde when it was announced as a Bonnie & Clyde update, but now it has my full attention and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

The film is being produced by Chad A. Verdi, Michelle Verdi, Chad A. Verdi Jr, Paul Luba, and Nick Koskoff. Andre Relis, David Gere, J.D. Beaufils, Jessica Bennett, Mickey Guerin, Anthony Gudas, and Chelsea Vale serve as executive producers. Amy Lippens and Ali Cesare are co-producers.
