Injustice: Superman goes on the warpath in the new red band trailer

Warner Bros. has unleashed a new red band trailer for Injustice that shows what happens when Superman loses all control and demands reparations for the brutal crimes committed against him and his loved ones.

Based on Tom Taylor’s graphic novel Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One, the animated film finds Superman at a loss after the death of Lois and their unborn child at the twisted hands of the Joker. During the fallout, Superman establishes a new world order with members of the Justice League as his red right hand. Desperate to retake control of the world, Batman partners with an assortment of allies to help bring Superman and his enforcers to justice.

Directed by Justice League Dark’s Matt Peters, from a script by Ernie Altbacke, Injustice stars Justin Hartley (This is Us) as Superman, Anson Mount (Inhumans) as Batman, Gillian Jacobs (Community) as Harley Quinn, and Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II, Gears 5) as Lois Lane and Rama Kushna.

After dropping a tame teaser for Injustice earlier this month, Warner Bros. is taking off the gloves. As you can see, the new trailer is filled with plenty of bloody violence as Superman spirals down a dark path. How do you subdue one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe without killing him? Can Superman return from the brink before the entire world becomes a victim of his wrath? What are his allies thinking? I’m Team Batman for this over-the-top violent superhero story, even if I do enjoy seeing Superman cut loose.

Both the Injustice comic book and video game series have enjoyed a great deal of success over the years. Each has received the sequel and spin-off treatment, which leads me to believe that Injustice could be the first of many animated films based on the concept. I’ll say this much, it certainly looks like WB is going for the gold with this one. It’s not every day that a company allows its flagship characters to behave in such a grotesque manner, so be sure to soak it up while you can.
