Netflix has decided it’s one and done for their geopolitical espionage thriller Hit & Run. The streamer has canceled the series after only one season and the news comes a month and a half after the show ended its first season with a pretty big cliffhanger.
Hit & Run was well-received by critics and viewers, earning 70%+ ratings from official reviews and audience feedback. The series did fall victim to the COVID-19 pandemic as its first season was hit with a shutdown due to the health crisis. Throwing in the COVID complication, Hit & Run took three years to produce, and due to fact that the sprawling drama was filmed in New York and Israel, the series was very expensive. This likely played into Netflix’s decision to not move forward with another season. While we don’t have streaming data for the show, Hit & Run broke into Nielsen’s Top 10 a week after its August 6 debut at No. 8 but it ended up being the thriller’s only appearance on the chart.
Created and written by Raz and Avi Issacharoff, Hit & Run centers on Segev (Raz), a happily married man whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a mysterious hit-and-run accident in Tel Aviv. Grief-stricken and confused, he searches for his wife’s killers, who have fled to the U.S. With the help of an ex-lover, Naomi Hicks (Sanaa Lathan), he uncovers disturbing truths about his beloved wife and the secrets she kept from him. The series also stars Kaelen Ohm, Moran Rosenblatt, and Gregg Henry.
