After sitting out The First Purge and The Forever Purge, Frank Grillo – who starred in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year – will be returning to the Purge franchise for The Purge 6, or whatever it ends up being called. While The Forever Purge had originally been announced as the final chapter in this series, by the time that movie reached theatres franchise creator James DeMonaco and Grillo had both revealed in interviews that they were talking about teaming up for another sequel. Now Grillo has confirmed to the Playlist Podcast that he is “committed” to doing The Purge 6.
Games Radar provides the transcription. During the podcast, Grillo said,
We committed to doing that – Purge 6 with [James DeMonaco] directing. It’s based on the Leo Barnes character. I’m excited. He’s going to send me the script. He just finished it. So, yeah, I’m really psyched about that. I love doing the Purge movies… I’m psyched, they called me and said James wanted to direct one more and I’m like, ‘Don’t even tell me. I’m in.'”
DeMonaco previously told Slashfilm,
Dude, my Purge 6 idea is all about Frank. It’s all about the Leo character. Without giving anything away, I think he’s off on his own, but he’s going to be called back into action, hopefully on Purge 6, if we’re lucky enough to do it. I hope that Leo comes back. That’s the goal. When I came up with Purge 6, he was the center of the idea. I’m hoping that we get to do that with him.”
Grillo is always fun to watch and I liked his Purge character Leo Barnes, so I’m glad to hear Leo is coming back one more time. While we wait for The Purge 6, Grillo can be seen in this weekend’s release Copshop, and is working with Sylvester Stallone on a limited series remake of Nighthawks.
