Raise your Sword of Protection toward the sky and get ready for adventure because a live-action She-Ra series is in development at Amazon. The project is in the early days of development and has DreamWorks Animation acting as an executive producer. The animation studio is, of course, responsible for the Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which explored the legendary heroine in bold new ways. In reading up on the new series, it’s expected to tell a standalone story that is not connected to the animated series.
Because the project is so new, it has yet to secure a writer. If the show gets picked up, it will be the first live-action adaptation of the She-Ra character, who made her animated debut in 1985 via He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword. In the series, She-Ra was introduced as the long-lost sister of Prince Adam, a.k.a. He-Man. Kidnapped and taken to the planet Etheria where she would be mind-controlled into serving the Evil Horde, Adora was freed as an adult by He-Man. Then, to help her in the battle ahead, Adora was given the Sword of Power. Not long after her introduction, She-Ra was given her own spin-off series that lasted for two seasons between 1985 and 1986.
Meanwhile, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is the story of an orphan named Adora, who leaves behind her former life in the evil Horde when she discovers a magic sword that transforms her into the mythical warrior princess She-Ra. Along the way, she finds a new family in the Rebellion as she unites a group of magical princesses in the ultimate fight against evil. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power ran for five seasons on Netflix.
We’ll be sure to bring you more details about this exciting adaptation as it continues to come together.
