Venom: Let There Be Carnage may be much shorter than Venom

When I first saw Ruben Fleischer’s 2018 Marvel Comics adaptation Venom (watch it HERE), I was shocked when the end credits started rolling just 92 minutes into the film’s 112 minute running time. Thanks to a mid-credits scene and a preview for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, that movie kept going for 20 minutes after it ended. Hopefully the upcoming sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage hasn’t been padded out in a similar way, because – as reported by Collider – websites like AMC and Fandango currently have the film’s running time listed as a flat 90 minutes.

We’ll find out for sure how long (or how short) Venom: Let There Be Carnage is when it reaches theatres on October 1st.

Directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, who crafted the story with star Tom Hardy, Venom: Let There Be Carnage doesn’t have much of a synopsis:

Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as the lethal protector Venom, one of MARVEL’s greatest and most complex characters.

Hardy reprises the role of journalist Eddie Brock, who becomes the anti-hero Venom when coated with an alien symbiote. He is joined in the cast by Woody Harrelson as serial killer Cletus Kasady, who becomes the symbiote-coated villain Carnage; Naomie Harris as a character called Shriek, an associate of Carnage’s; Michelle Williams as Eddie’s ex Anne; Reid Scott as Doctor Dan Lewis, Anne’s boyfriend; Sean Delaney in an unspecified role; and Stephen Graham as Detective Patrick Mulligan. In the comics, Mulligan also gets coated with a symbiote and becomes a character called Toxin, “more powerful than Venom and Carnage combined”.

While this film is based on Marvel Comics characters, it is not officially connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, it’s part of what Sony is calling their Spider-Man Universe – formerly known as the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material, and suggestive references.
