Home Alone reboot gets Fall premiere on Disney+

Home Sweet Home Alone is getting a Fall release on Disney+

Today, Disney+ announced 20th Century Studios’ Home Sweet Home Alone, a Home Alone reboot, will debut November 12, 2021, exclusively on the streaming service.

Per Disney, here is the official description for Home Sweet Home Alone:

Max Mercer is a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers…and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realize that there really is no place like home sweet home.

The film stars Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), Aisling Bea (Living with Yourself), Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live), Tim Simons (Veep), Pete Holmes (The Secret Life of Pets 2), Devin Ratray (Home Alone), Ally Maki (Toy Story 4), Chris Parnell (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) and is directed by Dan Mazer (Dirty Grandpa).

What in the ham sandwich?! How is this the first we’re hearing about this project? Did the Wet Bandits ever take on a pair of protégés or are we being introduced to all-new antagonists? Will there be any sweet cameos from the first two films? I certainly hope so.

The screenplay for Home Sweet Home Alone is by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell (Saturday Night Live), with a story by Day, Seidell, and John Hughes, and based on a screenplay by Hughes. Hutch Parker (X-Men: Dark Phoenix) and Dan Wilson (Patriots Day) are producing, with Jeremiah Samuels (Stuber) serving as executive producer.

What say you, good folks? Is it finally time for a Home Alone reboot for a new generation? When asked previously, director Chris Columbus was far from enthusiastic, calling it a “waste of time”. Can Archie Yates’ Max hold a candle to Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister? We’ll find out when Home Sweet Home Alone comes to Disney+ on November 12, 2021. Until then, keep an eye out for home invaders, you filthy animals.
