Although James Cameron’s Avatar still stands as the highest-grossing film of all time, it will be over a decade before we return to the world of Pandora with the Avatar sequels. Production has been underway for several years, with filming on Avatar 2 and 3 largely complete, and many of the actors from the first film returned to reprise their roles, including Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch.
Although Quaritch was seemingly killed at the conclusion of Avatar, Stephen Lang will somehow be revived to serve as the villain of all four sequels. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Lang teased that the Avatar sequels will be well worth the wait for fans of the franchise.
I think they’ll be enchanted and fascinated. Look, there are people who are going to just adore this world.
“I was in communication just last week with New Zealand, with my director, and everything’s great — he’s working hard,” Lang said. “My acting work on both Avatar 2 and 3 is complete. I might have to go back and do a line here and there, but I’m really done.” The actor went on to say that James Cameron has conceived a “beautifully imagined universe” for the Avatar sequels and that he’s “looking forward to it as much as everyone else. It’s been so long in the making, so long a part of my life.“
Avatar 2 will be hitting theaters on December 16, 2022, but Stephen Lang will next be seen in Don’t Breathe 2, which will be released on August 13th. The horror sequel will find Lang reprising his role of the Blind Man, but this time around, he finds himself the protector of 11-year-old Phoenix. When intruders once again come to his home, the Blind Man will reveal what’s hidden inside him… again.
