Snowpiercer season 4 ordered by TNT as season 3 wraps production

TNT is obviously having a great time being in the Snowpiercer business. They renewed the show for a third season before the second season even started airing, and now they've ordered a fourth season of Snowpiercer – even though the third season only recently finished filming. Sam Linsky and Adrienne O'Riain, co-heads of scripted original programming at TNT (as well as TBS and truTV), said they've ordered Snowpiercer season 4 because the show 

has been an incredibly successful series for us that continues to capture the imagination of viewers, grow audience and maintain strong ratings. All of our seasons embark on an emotional, unexpected ride and the well-plotted storylines will continue to evolve and remain relevant to audiences. We’re excited to keep the train running into season four."

Inspired by director Bong Joon-ho's 2013 film of the same name (watch it HERE) and its graphic novel source material, Snowpiercer is set 

more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland. The series centers on the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train, with 1001 cars, that circles the globe. As it does, issues of class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival are raised.

Variety informs us that season 2 ended with 

Layton (Daveed Diggs) and Ruth (Alison Wright), who were banished to Big Alice’s compost car, plotting to take back Snowpiercer. With the help of Javier (Roberto Urbina) and Alexandra (Rowan Blanchard), Layton and Ruth made it back to Snowpiercer and rallied with their supporters. Josie (Katie McGuiness) destroyed the Aquarium car separating Snowpiercer’s head from the remaining 1,023 cars. With Layton in command of a 10-car “pirate train,” he and his team rushed to Breslauer Research Station to find Melanie (Jennifer Connelly).

Season 3 will pick up with 

Layton and his inner circle commanding a small pirate train in search of Melanie and a possible warm location to restart civilization, aided by a newfound survivor. Back on Snowpiercer, Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) is consolidating power, foiled only by secret allies of Layton’s hidden on the train, committed to the cause.

In addition to the actors mentioned above, the cast also includes Archie Panjabi, Chelsea Harris, Rowan Blanchard, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuiness, Lena Hall, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, Steven Ogg, and Mike O'Malley.
