Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Season 8 art teases “one last ride”

Well, it looks like the end is nigh for my beloved Brooklyn Nine-Nine, with Fox officially announcing key art for the eighth and final season that has the depressingly final tag line “one last ride.” While I knew it was coming, seeing all of my favorite characters there on the poster, with the notion that this will be the last ever season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is almost too much to bear.

The season, which premieres August 12th, features the return of Andy Samberg’s Jake Peralta to his beloved 99th Precinct (NINE-NINE!), but the season is also expected to take something of a dramatic turn, with Deadline’s log-line putting it this way: “in the final season, Jake and the squad must try to balance their personal lives and their professional lives over the course of a very difficult year.”

Of course, given all that’s happened in the world over the last year, or so that’s understandable, although I have to say, the key art does a lot to dissuade my fears that the show will be too heavy. I mean, Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) is holding Cheddar, his beloved dog, so I’m assuming things won’t get too hardcore.

All of the regulars seem to be back, including Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Terry Crews, Joel McKinnon Miller, and Dirk Blocker. 

Fun fact – I live in Quebec, and we have our own bizarre French version of the show called Escouade 99, which is little more than direct adaptations of each episode. It’s very, very strange. 

I should also mention that if for some reason, you’ve yet to dig into Brooklyn Nine-Nine, you’re missing a delightful show. I watched all seven seasons over the pandemic and loved every episode. It was a daily dose of joy, similar to show-runners Dan Goor and Michael Schur’s other classic, Parks & Recreation.
