Manifest tops streaming chart as Netflix & NBC renewal talks continue

As talks to bring back Manifest continues after its cancellation, working in its favor is that its first two seasons continue to kill it on Netflix. Per the new Nielsen streaming chart, Manifest is still the top choice for viewers.

If you recall, Netflix debuted the first two seasons of the series on its service the week before NBC decided to cancel the Warner Bros TV-produced show after three seasons. After a solid debut, the series soared to No. 1 on the Nielsen’s SVOD charts for the week of June 14-20, when news of its cancellation broke, with almost 2.5 billion minutes viewed.

Now, in numbers reported yesterday for the week of June 21-25, Manifest finished No. 1 again with 2.01 billion minutes viewed for its 29 episodes on Netflix, according to Nielsen. This allowed it to top the No. 2 overall title, Disney+’s movie Luca, which had 1.71 billion minutes viewed. This all bodes well as talks are still ongoing for NBC or Netflix to bring the show back.

Despite the series doing strong numbers on the platform, Netflix opted not to resurrect the series, which seemed to seal its fate. Some thought Manifest would fall off on the streaming chart after Netflix passed on a new season because new viewers would be discouraged by a lack of a conclusion but that hasn't been the case. Judging from these recent numbers, Manifest is still the go-to show on the streamer and this only helps its chances as talks continue to bring the show back.

How the show is resurrected still needs to work itself out. Will Netflix get it exclusively as an original series or will NBC bring it back to network and license it to Netflix as it did with its first two seasons? These details are still being ironed out but its ongoing streaming success is good news and gives the show some leverage moving forward.

Manifest focuses on Montego Air Flight 828, which landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight. The crew and passengers are relieved to be safe but in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years and their friends, families, and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they're all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds, and some of the returned passengers soon realize they might be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. The series stars Josh Dallas, Jack Messina, Athena Karkanis, Melissa Roxburgh, JR Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Parveen Kaur, and Matt Long.
