I’m not going to sugar coat it; I f**king love
HELLBOY. From the character that Mike Mignola created to the Ron
Perlman portrayal in the film that I feel was done so well by Guillermo del
Toro. So when I hear comparisons between Del Toro’s
PAN’S LABYRINTH and his second installment in the
HELLBOY franchise, it makes me tingle…you know, down there.
Del Toro spoke with the folks over at
The Age about the latest in Hellboy’s
adventures, and it sounds like it’s going to be pretty awesome. Del Toro
specifically spoke about the script that he had written, and how Hellboy creator
Mike Mignola reacted to it.
“Mike was quite horrified by how
much I had deviated from what we had talked about, especially at some of the
quote, unquote whimsical elements, the parts about magic and the fairy world.
But then fortunately, he saw Pan’s Labyrinth” – the darkest and most devastating
of fairytales, a lyrical but unsettling film in which the borders between the
world of the imagination and the world of the everyday are blurred – “and he
realized that the two movies would have some parallels”
I mean anyone whose seen
PAN’S knows how sweet the film was only in terms of visual effects
and imagery, and I personally would love to see the new
HELLBOY mix it up with the same type of fairy tale creatures from
PAN’S. (Especially that creepy-ass root baby thing!)
So make sure to check out the rest of the Del
Toro interview, where he also talks about horror films in general, by clicking
here.
Speaking of tingling pants…
