Horror films based on true stories always seem to
have an extra edge that some films just can’t grasp. Whether it be
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE which is
loosely based on the exploits of Ed Gein, or
BLACK CHRISTMAS which was inspired by stories that Bob Clark had
heard were going on in northern Canada, horror with roots in reality always seem
to have that edge. Because of that, the new film THE MOONLIGHT MURDERS
seems very cool; especially if you live in the Texarkana area.
Being directed by Russ Diaper (
HELLBILLY 58 ) and loosely following the drive-in classic THE TOWN
THAT DREADED SUNDOWN, THE MOONLIGHT MURDERS is about a series of
grisly murders that took place between February and May in 1946 in the town of
Texarkana. The murderer, who wore a hood of burlap with holes cut out for eyes
and mouth, would “criminally assault ” (during the 40’s terms like ‘sexual
assault’ were not used) and than kill teen couples while they were in their
cars. While a man was eventually arrested and tried for the murders, there has
always been speculation that the wrong man was convicted and that the real
killer is still out there.
While the film is still in pre-production, they
already have both a
MySpace page and an
official site
up, so if your the kind of person that enjoys real life horror, make sure to
check them out. Also if your interested in the real case of the PHANTOM KILLER,
the killer the film is based on, click
here to read all about him.
