What would seem to only be a screen writing contest, the first annual SlamDance Horror Screenplay Contest spawned a feature length film based on the winning screenplay, written by Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby. To make things more exciting, Victor Garcia (RETURN TO HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, EL CICLO) will be directing the film, titled SLAUGHTER.
If anyone has seen Garcia’s short, EL CICLO, you know that this man has an eye and for intensity, and that is exactly what SLAUGHTER seems like it needs.
[Producer] Segal fills Fango in on SLAUGHTER’s essence, which is an interesting hybrid of Takashi (IMPRINT) Miike’s influence and hinted-at snuff-film sensibilities. “What it really is,” he tells us, “is a traditional Western horror movie that integrates Japanese elements, which [Brookes and Darby] had admired so much from being fans of the hardcore Asian horror movies that have since become popular over here. I’m not talking about THE GRUDGE and those films, but more Miike’s films and along those lines. That’s what they were going for, and that’s what we really latched onto.”
Robert Kurtzman’s Precinct 13 FX company will be taking on the gore of the film, which is described as:
Three struggling actresses finally get their big break, but all is not what it seems. They’re brought to a remote location, like [what] happens so many times in LA— And the trick is, when they turn up…there’s a little more realism going on than they thought. They realize very quickly that the director has intentions beyond special effects.
It sounds intense, and that is exactly what I expect from director Victor Garcia. Super hot blond Dominique Swain (above and below) is attached to star in the film, but no other casting items have been announced. To read more, head over here.
