Top 10: Anticipated For ’10 #1

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

It’s that time again to look ahead at some of the most exciting flicks set to open in the next year. And we’ve got some good stuff, more so than last year by far in my opinion.

Just outside of genre is bringing us such promising looks as CLASH OF THE TITANS, THE BOOK OF ELI, and of course, THE EXPENDABLES. So it’s gonna be a fun year for genre fans even when the flick isn’t exactly horror.

But fear not, there’s plenty of slaughter, mayhem, and downright nasty coming in 2010 to get your gore on. And if something you’re looking forward to didn’t make the list, spit bullets to let us know.

As to the New Year’s celebrations that are going on, be safe, because I trust you not to be good!

WARNING – POSSIBLE GREATNESS BELOW!

10. THE CRAZIES

Despite an interesting cast, I could not have cared less about this remake until they released a trailer. Gotta say it looks like a tense, moody, graphic good time. I like that they appear unafraid of a slow build, and at least two set ups teased in the trailer look like absolute classics.

9. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

I’m not sure if my anticipation for this seemingly unnecessary remake is based on the hope that it succeeds, or that it blows ropey goat chunks. I certainly haven’t been blown away by anything I’ve seen so far, and reports are that the script isn’t much different from the original, begging the question why do it? That said, I’m always excited to see Jackie Earle Haley at work, and it will be nice to see a non-jokey Freddy again.

8. MOTHER’S DAY

Damn, there are a lot of remakes on this f*cking list! Here’s one that should be a lot of fun for a number of reasons. Great eclectic cast for one. Also director Darren Bousman knows a thing or two about pleasing his target audience so expect plenty of gory good times here with nods, but not abject subservience to, the original.

7. PRIEST

This is Paul Bettany’s first starring role on the list, and if I have to explain why a badass priest having a righteous throwdown with a bunch of bloodsuckers is awesome then you are seriously at the wrong website. The rest of the cast includes people like Christopher Plummer, Karl Urban, and Maggie Q, so bring this bad boy on!

6. THE WOLFMAN

Been a long time waiting for this dog to bite us. And finally it’s gonna drop. So is it a werewolf movie to go nuts for? The trailers have painted a mixed picture of what to expect from the tone, but overall things look good. If anything is going to kill it, it will be an excess of desire to be taken seriously. Still, it’s hard not to think this has the chance to be a strong crossover force and legit genre entry all in one hairy package.

STAY TUNED FOR PART 2!
