Sean Bean confirmed for Death Race 2; Lauren Cohan joins too

The Hollywood Reporter is confirming a story that has been floating around for a few weeks now: Sean Bean (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, THE HITCHER) is in Universal’s DEATH RACE 2. While the article doesn’t specify his character, the chatter is that he’s playing a villainous mob boss and “Frankenstein’s” (Luke Goss) main adversary.

Also joining the cast is Lauren Cohan (pictured below), whom fans of “Supernatural” might remember as “Bela Talbot”. She’s presumably play a hot and sexy chick who doesn’t take shit from anyone. That’s an educated guess, though.

Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, Tanit Phoenix and Frederick Koehler also star in the prequel, which is being directed by THE MARINE 2 helmer Roel Reine. Paul W.S. Anderson is producing along with Jeremy Bolt; filming is underway in South Africa.

The prequel is serving as the origin story for the character named Frankenstein, a convicted cop killer (Goss) in a declining American Empire where a racing reality show is about to be born in the country’s corrupt prison system.
