James Cameron doesn’t vibe well with Piranha 3D’s 3D!

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

So what does the Master of 3D think about the latest Piranha flick running into the third dimension? Vanity Fair says not well at all. In fact James Cameron took a few minutes out of his busy schedule and found the right words to describe his discomfort with PIRANHA 3D.

Now anyone who’s anyone will immediately recognize the irony here. Many moons ago Cameron actually had a fling with the Piranha franchise. Unfortunately this was a gig that even today he doesn’t like to bring up. When asked if PIRANHA 3D left a little tug on his heart from the memories of directing PIRANHA 2: THE SPAWNING, this is what he had to say: “You’ve got to remember: I worked on Piranha 2 for a few days and got fired off of it; I don’t put it on my official filmography. So there’s no sort of fond connection for me whatsoever,” he told them. “In fact, I would go even farther and say that… I tend almost never to throw other films under the bus, but that is exactly an example of what we should not be doing in 3-D. Because it just cheapens the medium and reminds you of the bad 3-D horror films from the 70s and 80s, like Friday the 13th 3-D. When movies got to the bottom of the barrel of their creativity and at the last gasp of their financial lifespan, they did a 3-D version to get the last few drops of blood out of the turnip. And that’s not what’s happening now with 3-D.”

In other words F*CK YOU PIRANHA FRANCHISE! While Cameron may not be so approving of other films dipping its fingers into the 3D pot, there’s no denying the fact that the horror genre will continue to spawn  little 3D bastards on it’s own. Strike down below and tell us what you think about Cameron’s comments. Was he right on or is the guy just throwing another film under the bus? You tell us.

Here’s to Kelly Brooks in PIRANHA 3D.
