You can’t pass up good old fashioned horror fests. You just can’t. While the bigger horror cons and fests out there get most of the publicity and attractions, it’s a no brainer when it comes to no publicity for smaller fests. In fact most folks don’t even know about the fests popping up around their local adobes. Give yourself a treat and support local and upcoming fests. You never know. The next big thing could be screening down the street.
With that said, San Diego is taking up the job of debuting the next horror fest in the Southland. Horrible Imaginings: The Horror Films Festival of San Diego is set to debut its first ever fest on November 6th. Groovy!
Horrible Imaginings: The Horror Film Festival of San Diego kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Tenth Avenue Theater, 930 10th Ave. in East Village.
“San Diego is great for film, but the horror genre… has been like an ignored stepchild,” festival founder Miguel Rodriguez says. “I wanted to start something to give local and independent artists and filmmakers some exposure and to give the genre some of its due.”
The fest is a one day only event but for it’s debut it’ll present five features and several shorts. The fest will be divided into two parts. The first is based on terror of the mind and will showcase psychological thrillers such as the 1960 classic PEEPING TOM and Lis Fies’ THE COMMUNE. Part 2 is based on the body and will get considerably more graphic, featuring movies like THE BEYOND and the perfectly named DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK.
Sounds like a good way to spend your weekend. Horror films and after-parties to boot? Hell to the f*cking yes! Be a part of history and attend the first ever San Diego Horror Film Festival titled Horror Imaginings. For more information on the event click here!
