Stuntman turned filmmaker Vic Armstrong dusting off a Hitchcock classic for debut?

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Vic Armstrong (pictured right, to the left of Harrison Ford) has the “know how.” With over thirty years of stunt man experience in the industry you would think the guy knows a thing or two about directing a show. He’s probably seen it all from multi-million dollar budgets to indie sleepers. Hell, I wouldn’t mind betting on Armstrong helping out a film or two in this new shaky-cam era.

It seems after some heavy thinking and a few bumps to the head, Armstrong has become inspired to helm his own features. Armstrong actually worked as a second unit shooter in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III, THOR, and THE GREEN HORNET.  So he’s already dipped his feet once or twice into the director’s pool of awesomeness.

Moviehole reports of Armstrong’s latest efforts in getting a chance to sit in the director’s chair soon. Armstrong will be looking to direct a remake of a legendary classic for his directorial debut. His first film of choice? THE 39 STEPS.

Vic Armstrong will be tackling THE 39 STEPS this year with the help of scribes Bob Couttie, Neal Bloom and Debbie Bishop. All three of the writers are also in the mix to write the upcoming THE CHAMELEON which Armstrong is rumored to direct.

The remake…of an adaptation…of John Buchan novel’s will be no easy task for Armstrong. I figured if you took his history, however, and plug that into the plot for THE 39 STEPS then Armstrong might actually have something here. Heavy on the stunts, high on the action? Sounds like a recipe for fun summer flick.

John Buchan’s novel and Hitchcock’s consequent film tell of Robert, a Canadian man in London who tries to help a counterespionage agent. But when the agent is killed and Robert stands accused, he must go on the run to both save himself and also stop a spy ring trying to steal top secret information. Armstrong will take on the remake within the coming year. We here at AITH will bring you more updates as they come.
