Although SCREAM 5 has not been officially greenlit yet, Harvey Weinstein was recently quoted as hinting at it happening, thanks to the strong international numbers of SCREAM 4. EW sat down with director Wes Craven to talk about the potential fifth entry, who is in no rush to make it happen.

“I’m taking the summer off. I directed and produced, and my wife [Iya Labunka] produced, both SCREAM 4 and the previous film, MY SOUL TO TAKE, and they were both very difficult films. So we just decided, ‘You know what? We’re going to spend the summer someplace nice and not think about film for a while.'”

So they guy is taking a break, but there’s good news for Ghostface fans. Not only is he Weinstein Company is contractually obliged to give him “first dibs” on Scream 5, but he says it’s “entirely possible” he would return to the series “if they get a script I’m interested in directing. The best situation would be if Kevin [Williamson] would come back.”
