Wes Craven is currently doing the press rounds for the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of SCREAM 4, and was kind enough to spend a few minutes chatting with AITH. While the full interview is coming soon, I figured for now I’d highlight the question that’s on the minds of SCREAM fans everywhere: What’s next for the franchise?
“[SCREAM 4] certainly was conceived as the first of a new trilogy,” Craven said. “Kevin [Williamson] sketched out a trilogy arc, that was the original concept. I’m sure the studio would like to do the rest of the trilogy, and it seems like the box office – the foreign sales – has justified doing another one. And then it’s a matter of a script that’s worthy of being the second installment. From what I hear, that’s probably what Bob [Weinstein] is doing right now, trying to get to that second concept for a second film.”
Wes also told me that he gets “first look” at the script, so it’s his to accept or turn down as he sees fit.
Seems quite clear that there’s still blood pumping in SCREAM‘s veins, despite what many thought was a tepid box office reception for part 4. (It made $97 million worldwide.) A lot will likely depend on how the sequel fares on the home video market; it comes out on OCTOBER 4th. Pre-order the DVD HERE or the Blu-ray HERE.
Keep your eyes peeled for the entire Wes Craven interview, which will hit later this week.
