Wolf Creek 2 producer wants his investment back, what’s this mean for the film?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Last time we wrote about WOLF CREEK 2, it was this past July, when the film secured funding from Screen Australia. Well, it looks like another primary investor in the film wants his money back…

According to News.com.au, financier Geoffrey Edelsten has filed a case with Supreme Court, claiming he never would have invested in the film if he’d known he was the biggest and single private investor. Budgeted at $13.2 million, Edelsten put in $5 million of his own money. And seeing how he thinks the film won’t net a tidy return, he’s trying to get out of his investment before the picture eventually releases. Emu creek pictures, which director Gregg McLean works for, is denying the allegations with plans to fight them in court.

A lot of other legal stats are cited by Edelsten, read them all HERE if you so choose. More concerning to me is what this means for the actual release of the film. Will it be tied up in litigation for so long you could make WOLF CREEK 3 and WOLF CREEK 4 in the interim? Will anyone even care when it finally does come out?

Before we lose interest altogether, let’s relive the synopsis:

Lured by the promise of an authentic Australian holiday, backpackers RUTGER, KATARINA and PAUL visit the notorious Wolf Creek crater. Their dream Outback adventure soon becomes a horrific reality when they encounter the site’s most infamous local, the last man any traveler to the vast and isolated region ever wants to meet; MICK TAYLOR (John Jarratt).

As the backpackers flee, Mick pursues them on an epic, white knuckled rampage across hostile wasteland. Only one will remain to be dragged back to his lair to witness the true magnitude of his monstrosity. And if the last man standing is to have any hope of surviving where no one has survived before, he’ll have to use every ounce of cunning to outwit the man behind the monster, and become every bit as ruthless as the monster inside the man.
