It seems Filmax have been pretty damn busy as of late! I say this because they’ve got three very intriguing genre flicks hitting Cannes today and we’ve yet to hear about a single one of them! Don’t worry though, I’m about to school you on all three. Try to keep up!
First up we’ve got THE RETURNED, which comes from director Manuel Carballo and producer Julio Fernandez. Hatem Khraiche Ruiz-Zorrilla penned the script, which reads a little something like this:
Kate works at the hospital in the Return Unit, helping those who have been infected by the virus that turns people into zombies. Kate’s dedication to her work is absolute, but few people realize that for her it is also a personal matter; Kate’s own husband, Jason, has been returned.
After various brutal and prolific attacks at the hands of Anti-Return groups and rumors that the “Protein” stock is running dangerously low, Kate fears for Jason´s safety. Suspicious of the government’s order that all the returned should report to a secure medical facility ‘for their own safety’, the couple decides to flee, taking with them all the doses of “Return Protein” they have. At no point does the couple imagine that the real threat is a lot closer than they think…
Next up we’ve got I WILL DIE TONIGHT, which is a thriller heading our way courtesy of helmer Miguel Angel Vivas and producer Julio Fernandez. Alberto Marini penned this one, which reads:
Marcos and his family have found themselves the victims of a cruel fate. He is currently the only suspect in a murder case, his trial is about to begin and the only witness who could save him has disappeared without trace. Marcos discovers something much more sinister is behind all this. Someone has been plotting this revenge for a long time and is planning to see it out until the bitter end…
And lastly we’ve got TORMENT. This little diddy comes at us from director Jordan Barker and producer Julio Fernandez. With a script by Michael Foster, TORMENT’s rundown reads:
Cory Morgan, his wife and their 3 year old daughter Emily decide to spend a quiet family holiday alone. When Sarah starts seeing strange things around the house, it soon becomes clear that they have some unwanted guests… Now the family are forced to fight for their lives in what has become a festival of terror of epic proportions.
So there you have it folks! What did I tell you? Three very intriguing genre flicks coming our way from Filmax. I’ve also gone and tossed up the teaser art for each flick above and below. So be sure to check that out!
