DRIVE director Nicolas Winding Refn has a lot on his plate: He’s currently working on beating up Ryan Gosling in the fantastic-sounding ONLY GOD FORGIVES; he’s potentially plotting a MANIAC COP prequel (which still sounds crazy to me, but the guy is anything but conventional) and is delving into human-hunting with BUTTON MAN. But if today’s news is to be believed, he’s going to be getting in touch with his feminine side quite soon.
THR reports that Refn is set to direct and produce a small-screen adaptation of BARBARELLA. The character, who originated in Jean-Claude Forest’s French comic book, was of course personified – hotly – by Jane Fonda in the 1968 Roger Vadim film.
Gaumont International Television (the upcoming series “Hannibal”) will produce, while Martha De Laurentiis, Julien Forest and Jean-Marc Lofficier will executive produce.
No word on when this lovely lady will begin strutting her stuff, but you’d better believe the casting process will be a rather delicious one.
Obviously, it doesn’t look like Robert Rodriguez will ever fulfill his dream of bringing the spacey sex kitten to the silver screen…
