28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland crushes any hope for 28 Months Later

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Ever since the 2007 release of 28 WEEKS LATER, we’ll get hit once a year or so with rumblings of a 28 MONTHS LATER, which would conclude al trilogy born from Danny Boyle’s still-effective 28 DAYS LATER. Boyle himself chimed in over a year ago to say there was “a good idea for it,” stoking the hopes of fans who want to see what an infected-ravaged world would look like two years after the start of it all. But Alex Garland, the screenwriter of the first film, is here to snuff out any notions of an imminent third film.

Speaking to Dread Central, the DREDD scribe weighed in on the rumored sequel:

“…in regards to another movie, no – there are no plans for a 28 Months Later or whatever they were calling it. This is a series I’ve always been heavily involved with between the original and the sequel so if there were plans for another movie, I would absolutely know about it.”

Of course, despite what Mr. Garland thinks, there’s always a never-say-never attitude in showbiz, so I wouldn’t ditch all hope for a 28 MONTHS movie just yet. That said, if we are to get one, it doesn’t look like it will happen any time soon.
