So TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D came out a few weeks back. I, personally, have yet to check it out but the film has certainly garnered mixed reviews. While the consensus seems to lean towards “dumb fun,” many fans have been critical of the film’s plot inconsistencies– namely, how in the hell does Leatherface not age from 1974 to 2013?
Apparently the producers of TC3D factored this in during pre-production. Based on the concept art from creature creator Jerad S Marantz, we were originally going to get a very ghastly, much older version of Leatherface in the film. Okay, so the masks look older (not so much the dude under them), but that certainly emphasizes the passage of time between Tobe Hooper’s first film and the new sequel, don’t you think?
Though I haven’t seen TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D yet, I can’t help but feel a pang of regret that we never got to enjoy Old Man Leatherface. Not only would it have made the movie a bit more logical, it also may have given the property a little more personality. Then again, the film made boatloads of money and a follow-up is already set in stone, so what do I know? Check out the concept art below and decide for yourself.
