Back in April we shared the news that Luke Evans had taken the lead role in the Gary Shore-helmed DRACULA: YEAR ZERO (which may have dropped the YEAR ZERO part of the title to go with just DRACULA), and today we have some news on who will be joining Evans onscreen.
Deadline is reporting that "Shameless" and "Black Sails" star Zach McGowan has joined the cast, set to play a character called Shkelgim, a gypsy chief, in the origin story that has Luke Evans as Prince Vlad, the man who would become the storied bloodsucker. Dominic Cooper also stars.
The script tells of a young prince who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.
Michael De Luca and Alissa Phillips are producers on the pic, which Matt Sazama and Burt Sharpless wrote based on Bram Stoker’s iconic novel. Universal has set an August 8, 2014 release.
