I don't know about you, but there's just something hot about a woman who can kick some ass, even if it is mine! That's why I've always had a thing for Gina Carano, the MMA fighter-turned-actress who made her debut in last years HAYWIRE, an action movie that director Steven Soderbergh fashioned around her after seeing the star kick butt on the mat. Now The Hollywood Reporter is sharing that Carano and comic creator Rob Liefeld are teaming up to bring Liefeld’s creation AVENGELYNE to the big screen.
For those not in the know, Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons, monsters, and the like. Carano and Liefeld are reconceiving and rebuilding the title into a starring vehicle for Carano, and the movie project is intended to be in the vein of UNDERWORLD, but I can see it playing more as a BLADE-type film.
A search for a writer to adapt AVENGELYNE will begin next week, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the meantime, Carano and Liefeld will be at Comic-Con on Saturday to meet with fans and sign posters that feature Carano as the character (hey Arrow or Walkuski…how 'bout getting your homie an early Christmas present while you're out there, eh?).
We'll keep you posted on news regarding AVENGELYNE as it rolls in.
