True to its name, ODD THOMAS has been a strange case. The film, based on a book by Dead Koontz, wrapped production back in 2011 and has hardly been heard from since. Reportedly, the relative quiet on the film’s progress has been thanks to legal BS, but the project showed some signs of life in May when a sales trailer arrived out of Cannes. But then, once again, nada. Until now!
Image Entertainment has acquired all U.S. rights to ODD THOMAS ,we learn via a press release. The film was written and directed by Stephen Sommers and stars Anton Yelchin, Willem Dafoe and Addison Timlin.
While no specific release plan has been divulged, the movie will evidently come out in early 2014.
Odd Thomas (Yelchin) tells the story of a short-order cook with clairvoyant abilities. Maybe he has a gift, maybe it’s a curse, Odd has never been sure, but he tries to do his best by the silent souls who seek him out. Sometimes they want justice and he finds himself helping police solve a crime. Occasionally, they prevent one.
One day, however, a mysterious man comes to town with a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world’s worst killers and a pack of hyena-like shades that follow him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd’s deceased informants can tell him. What happens next is a mysterious battle between light and darkness.
Patton Oswalt, Nico Tortorella, Leonor Varela and Arnold Vosloo also star in ODD THOMAS; we’ll update you once we have an exact release date.
