Jason Blum says Amityville: The Lost Tapes still going; talks Blumhouse TV, future of Insidious & more

Jason Blum is a name most horror fans are very familiar with. The founder and CEO of Blumhouse Productions, Blum has produced some of the biggest hits in the genre over the past decade including the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series, SINISTER, the INSIDIOUS films and THE PURGE, just to name a few. And with several high profile films on his busy schedule aiming to hit theaters over the next couple of years, including OUIJA, INCARNATE, a remake of THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN and a sequel to THE PURGE, Blum has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

Blum recently sat down with Crave Online to talk his project, past and future, and gave us some insight as to what we have to look forward to from Blumhouse. One project he touched on was the long-delayed found footage horror THE AMITYVILLE HORROR: THE LOST TAPES. Back in November we heard the rumor that THE LOST TAPES was dead but Blum says that is not the case. When asked if there was any truth to the rumor that the film was no longer in the cards, Blum responded…

Nope. Still going, still going, still going, still going. We’re going to make that movie and it’s very cool. But I don’t quite know yet when.

That's actually pretty good news if you're a fan of the AMITYVILLE films. Having a found footage flick set within the walls of that infamous haunted house sounds like it could actually be a lotta fun. Fingers crossed that this film gets going sooner rather than later…it's been a long enough wait already!

Blum also revealed that he's working on a new genre television series, sharing…

There’s something which I’m very proud of which I’ve been working on in a while, and we’re going to start shooting in about two months. Sadly, I can’t tell you what it is. Next time we talk we’ll be shooting it. And there’s another series that we shot a pilot. Catherine Hardwicke did a pilot for us. It’s called “Eye Candy” that Victorica Justice starred in, which also, depending on if they pick it up or not, they haven’t weighed in, could become our series. They haven’t weighed in yet on whether or not they’re going to pick it up but the pilot is finished and I’m really proud of it. So between that and the one that we’re shooting – we’re going to shoot multiple episodes – we’re going to have something on the air very soon.

In case you missed it when we reported on it back in September, "Eye Candy" is an adaptation of an R.L. Stine story that Blumhouse is teaming with MTV to produce. Written/co-executive produced by Emmy Grinwis, "Eye Candy" centers on…

When her friends at the elusive cyber-police uncover a potential serial killer in Manhattan, all signs point to one of Lindy’s dates. Blum went on to reveal that he'd be open to bringing an INSIDIOUS spin-off to the small screen, sharing…

I’d like to do that. I don’t think you can do that while we’re still making movies. Now Leigh is writing the third Insidious, so we have to see how far we can take the series of movies […] but I believe very strongly that once that kind of comes to a close you can do a series, and I think soon we’ll be in a place where you can have a series at the same time. Although right now people are too nervous to have that.

I'd love to see a TV series that revolves around the further adventures of Specs, Tucker and Elise! That sounds like it could be a lotta fun.
