Ernie Hudson says there can’t be another Ghostbusters without Harold Ramis

GHOSTBUSTERS star Ernie Hudson is adamant there can never be another movie installment in the franchise following the death of star/writer Harold Ramis, who sadly passed away this week after losing his battle with a rare blood disease at the age of 69.

We've known for a while that plans for GHOSTBUSTERS III were in motion and reported only yesterday that Ramis' death on Feb. 24 has left Sony scrambling to keep the film on track since Ramis was to have made a cameo appearance in the film. It was reported that Ivan Reitman, who is directing the film, will meet with Sony to assess how to move forward on the project that is in active development. But Hudson, who played Winston in GHOSTBUSTERS and its sequel GHOSTBUSTERS II, says that without Ramis, there shouldn't be a third GHOSTBUSTERS.

The GHOSTBUSTERS team, which also included Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, had spent years trying get a third film off the ground, and Hudson is now convinced plans for a new movie will have to be scrapped, telling TMZ…

“Harold was the glue. There wouldn’t a ‘Ghostbusters’ without Harold Ramis. Harold pulled it together. And I know I probably wouldn’t be in the business had I not had the chance to work with Harold at that time in my career. He taught me a lot, not overtly by trying to teach me, just watching him work and how he dealt with things. He will be missed.”

When asked about the proposed third GHOSTBUSTERS film, Ernie responded with…

“There can’t be another Ghostbusters without Harold. There can be another Ghost-something, but it won’t be… that was always my fear, that… you know, something would happen before we all got together.”

Hudson is right…it just wouldn't feel like GHOSTBUSTERS without Egon Spengler, Ramis' character from the films.

With that said, fans of the series should plead with Hollywood: Please do NOT green light a sequel, and for the love of the movie gods, please do not ever reboot. The two GHOSTBUSTERS films stand on their own as one of the best movie franchises in history. Without the full cast, there is no GHOSTBUSTERS. And without Ramis, this series will truly be missing something special.
